Mystic Series Model M-200 “Sade” Swag Rain Lamp

A new expression of a classic.

The Mystic Series Model M-200 “Sade” continues a new generation of rain lamps from Rain Oil Lamps LLC. Hand-assembled in Mystic, Connecticut, Sade brings together powder-coated steel, genuine brass detailing, and an original sculptural centerpiece in a classic hanging swag design.

Design & Inspiration

Inspired by classic rain lamps of the 1960s and 1970s, including designs from Creators Inc. and Johnson Industries, Sade carries that familiar atmosphere into a newly manufactured lamp: illuminated oil flowing down delicate strands, lush green foliage, and a sculptural figure at the center.

At 30 inches tall and 11 inches in diameter, its coffee-colored exterior and cream interior provide a warm setting for the rainfall effect. The powder-coated steel construction is extensively finished with genuine brass, including the banding, roped column covers, hanging chain, finial and exposed hardware.

At the center stands an original figure commissioned for this lamp, finished in glossy black. Her still pose is framed by the continuous movement of oil and light.

Setup

Sade is a corded hanging swag lamp designed to suspend from a suitable ceiling support and plug into a standard 120 V outlet. Some setup is required, including placing the statue and foliage and adding oil. Follow the included instructions for installation and the correct oil fill.

Sade is my own creation, from the first CAD drawings to the original statue I commissioned for its center. I designed every part with one goal in mind: to make a rain lamp that will be as beautiful in 2076 as it is in 2026.

That goal guided my choice of materials. The frame, covers, and platforms are steel, with durable powder-coated finishes. The brass accents are genuine brass, chosen for their beauty today and their ability to be polished and refinished decades from now. These details added considerably to the cost of each lamp, but they were worth doing right.

I like to imagine someone’s granddaughter rediscovering this lamp fifty years from now, something worth bringing home, caring for, and enjoying all over again. I wanted to build it with that future in mind.

At its center, Sade’s quiet presence gives the moving oil and light something still to surround. To me, she feels peaceful, distinctive, and full of depth. This lamp carries forward what I love about the originals, with my own design and materials chosen to endure.
